An Eye Exam眼睛检查

Patient: Recently, I've been getting headache, and my eyes don't seem to focus properly.

Doctor: When did you last have your eyes checked?

Patient: Two years ago. And at that time, I had no problems. Now I can't even make out something ten meters away.

Doctor: Come over here and I'll test your eyes. First cover your left eye like this, and when I point, please read the chart from 'the top, and go as far as you can, telling me which way the "E" points.

医生：您到这儿来，我检测一下您的眼睛。先像这样遮住左眼，我用手来指，您跟着从上往下读，能读多少读多少，要告诉我“E”指向哪边。

Patient: All right...

病人：好的…

Doctor: ( after a while ) Good. Now the other eye.

3.详细解说

1.“make out sth”在此处是“（能）看清楚…，（能）分辨出…，（能）听清楚…的意思，例如：He could just make out a dark shape moving towards him.（他只能看见有个黑影在向他移过来。

）I couldn't make Out what he was saying.（我听不清楚他在说什么。）另外，它还能表示“（能）明白或（能）理解（尤指某事发生的原因）”，后接“what/how/why”等词，例如：I couldn't make out what I had done to annoy her.（我不明白我做了什么惹恼了她。）

2.“come over”表示从一个地方到另外一个地方，在这里意为“过来”，例如：Are your family coming over from Greece for the wedding?（你的家人从希腊过来参加婚礼吗？）

3.“Never mind.”是口语用法，在这里是“没关系，别担心。”的意思。
