理由之“知识”在独立写作思路中的运用

　　上次我们讲到了理由中“交友”在独立写作思路中的展开，今天看一看“知识”这个常用的理由在主体段中怎么样才能扩展到120个单词。

首先还是对这个理由进行定义方面的扩展：

　　获取（就业/实用性）知识和技能：acquire (employment / marketable / practical / pragmatic) knowledge and skills

　　扩大知识面/知识储备：expand one’s knowledge base / reserve / storage; enlarge one’s scope of knowledge

　　开阔眼界：widen one’s outlook; broaden one’s vision / horizon

　　提升综合能力：promote one’s overall / comprehensivecompetence培养独立性、责任感：cultivate independence / responsibility

然后，我们按照步骤把这个理由和题目结合起来：

　　假设题目：是否应该选择A这个立场？/ A和B应该选哪个？/A, B, C哪个是的？

　　我们选择A，因为它可以让人获得更多知识。以“A让人获得知识”为中心，接下来的展开可以分成三步：前，中，后。

　　①前：为什么要扩展知识？——通常一个人的知识大多都是来源于学校课本，这是远远不够的，所以他需要从多方面开阔视野，而A就是一个很好的机会/平台/媒介来接触更广阔的世界。

　　②中：A可以让人获得什么样的知识？——这个就跟具体的题目有关了，也是我们之前强调过的“遇到复数名词或者一个比较抽象的概念要对它进行举例说明，既可以增加字数，又可以让读者更好地理解”。

　　③后：获得知识有什么好处？——可以成为一个多才多艺 / 见多识广的人become a versatile / well-informed person; become a man of profound and immense learning / 避免成为一个无知肤浅的人avoid being an ignorant and shallow person

看一个例子：

　　Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is important to know about what is happening around the world, even if it does not affect your personal lives.

　　我们选择agree。

　　思路：首先，了解时事可以让人扩展知识面。具体来说，通常一个人的知识大多都是来源于学校课本，这是远远不够的，所以他需要从多方面开阔视野，而了解时事就是一个很好的机会来接触更广阔的世界。For example, 从网上或者电视上看一些新闻，从广播里听一些全球性的报道，或者看报纸杂志上刊登的论文等等，都是愉悦的精神之旅。因此，人们可以变得更加见多识广。

　　参考范文：

　　First, having access to information about the outside world is an effective step to broaden a person’s horizon. To be specific, in most cases, people gain knowledge from schools and textbooks, which is far from enough. Thus, knowing about current affairs serves as a good vehicle for an individual to be exposed to a wider world. In a sense, learning about global events resembles setting off on a meaningful spiritual tour. Watching world-wide news broadcasts via the Internet or the TV, listening to global reports from the radio, reading articles in the world-news columns of newspapers and magazines, all these activities could be considerably beneficial to a person's mental development. Thus, reserving a portion of leisure time for such an educational spiritual journey each day is undoubtedly a fashionable choice. After all, open-mindedness is a highly-desired quality in the modern era. Confinement and short-sightedness would definitely lead to the backwardness of an individual.

　　再看一个例子：

　　我们选择agree。

　　思路：首先，出去旅行可以让人扩展知识面。具体来说，通常一个人的知识大多都是来源于学校课本，这是远远不够的，所以他需要从多方面开阔视野，而出去旅行就是一个很好的机会来接触更广阔的世界 / 从不同的角度观察世界observe the world from different angles。For example, 人们可以见识不同的地理特征distinct geographical and meteorological features / 不同的经济模式disparate economic patterns / 不同的社会政策dissimilar social policies / 动人的历史故事appealing historical stories / 吸引人的艺术品fascinating artworks /  有趣的文化风俗intriguing cultural customs。因此，人们可以避免成为无知肤浅的人，在这个竞争激烈的社会中也能有更强的优势。
