    Friends and Money Don't Mix

    1) Nothing will end a friendship faster than a dispute or fight over money. Lending greenbacks, borrowing bucks or talking too much about cash often leads to fights between friends.

    2) It is common to lend a friend ten or twenty bucks. However, a bigger loan may cause problems.

    3) If your friend want you to hit them with 300 USD, be careful.

    4) Interest. Banks charge interest on loans. For example: If you borrow 1000USD from a bank, you must pay back 1200.

    5) Friends should never charge interest, but some people are greedy when it comes to money.

    Paying for the Bill 付帐

Paying for the bill is always a touchy issue. This is especially confusing when you are dealing with someone from a different culture. Here are several different situations to help you figure out who is paying.

    1) You are taking a girl out that you like. In this situation, you should be prepared to pay for the bill. Sometimes the girl will insist on paying for half. In this case you need to be careful. If she is very insistent, you should let her pay, but if she only suggest once or twice you should pay.

    2) Going out with a friend or colleague. In this situation you are probably going to split the bill. However, if he says," Let me take you out...", "It's on me", "It's my treat", "Let me get it", or "I'll pick up the tab", these all mean that your friend will pay for the bill. If you agree on who is going to pay for the bill before the meal, you can still offer to pay at the end, but you should only offer once or twice and let him pay if he insists.

    3) In case you are short on money, you should tell the person that you are going out to eat, and that you will need to borrow money before you go out to eat. Never assume that they will pay.

    4) If someone tells you that they want to treat you before the meal, then you should allow them to pay without arguing too much. But, if they say it after the meal, then you can be more insistent and can decide for yourself, if you want to let them pay or not.

    Dialogue
    Paying for the Bill 付帐

Molly: That was a really good meal, Gordon.

Gordon: It sure was. I couldn't eat another bite.

Molly: Well, it is getting pretty late. I think we should go home.

Gordon: You're right. I have to get up early to go to work tomorrow.

Molly: Let's see how much the bill is.

Gordon: Don't worry about it. Tonight is my treat.

Molly: What are you talking about? We'll split the bill. We'll go Dutch.

Gordon: No, I insist. I kept telling you that I would treat you to dinner, but I still haven't.

Molly: No way, Jose. I know that you are a little short on cash at the moment. There's no need for you pay for the whole bill.

Gordon: Alright, if that's the way you are going to be, we'll go Dutch.

Molly: That's better. This way we will both have money to take a cab home; otherwise, you would probably have to walk.

Gordon: Just promise you will let me treat you to dinner next week, OK?

    Molly: You've got a deal.

    Gordon: Great. Bye.

    Molly : Bye.
