“Draw!” Wild Bill yelled across the street with his right hand just above his pistol.
“No sir!” Dicky Cartwright replied. “I ain't got no beef with you Bill, as such. And even though I'm as right as rain about this one, you've always been as steady as a rock when it comes to gun duels! As soon as I draw, you'll shoot me!”
“Doggone it, Dicky. As usual, you're as stubborn as a mule! You know I didn't steal that saddlebag! I found it along the road, as luck would have it, and it's mine to keep! As to your not drawing first, well I guess I'll have to shoot you anyway!”
Dicky turned as white as a sheet. He almost fell over in fear as well. He felt as if he was suddenly as weak as a kitten. Then he felt his legs became as warm as toast—he had wet himself.
“Well, then you better shoot me as soon as possible before I die of embarrassment!”
As it turned out, that was what saved Dicky Cartwright. Wild Bill started laughing and put his gun down. And as long as Wild Bill wasn't pointing at him anymore, Dicky slowly moved towards the door of the sheriff's office.
When the sheriff returned he said that, as the case may be, the saddlebag really did belong to Wild Bill. Its owner had died and Wild Bill was the first to find the bag.
Now whether Wild Bill killed the owner of that bag, no one would ever know. But Dicky Cartwright lived through a show down with Wild Bill He would never live it down!

迪基吓得脸色苍白。他还差点儿摔了一跤。他感觉好像突然身体都虚了。接着他又感觉他的腿暖烘烘的——原来是他尿裤子了。
“好吧，你尽快杀了我，免得我死得很难看！”
结果是这句话救了迪基·卡特赖特。怀尔德·比尔开始大笑起来，他放下了手枪。既然怀尔德·比尔不再拿枪指着他，迪基慢慢移向县治安官办公室门口。
县治安官回来时说，那个工具包或许真的属于怀尔德·比尔。它的主人已经死了，怀尔德·比尔是个发现那个包的。
怀尔德·比尔是否杀死了工具包的主人现在已经不得而知。但迪基·卡特赖特经历了与怀尔德·比尔的决一死战。他永远也无法使人们忘记这个耻辱。
