不少同学在分析Argument时的逻辑思路本身是正确的,但是可惜没有得到fair grade,看过他们的作文之后,我们发现主要的问题有二:
▲ 一是没有对题目的指令要求给予回应;
▲ 二是没有在措辞的时候突出逻辑疑点的类型。
我们今天就给出几个老师的参考答案的段落来展示如果做到这两个关键点。
例一:回应“what specific evidence is needed”指令,并且是在讨论“研究方法”这类逻辑疑点。 The author omits to provide information about the methods used, in the second study, to collect data. It is therefore plausible to question the methods—whether the methods can provide valid statistics. If researchers in the second study used observation or survey, there may be researchers’ miscounting or respondents’ giving careless information. To strengthen the validity of the finding of the second study, the author should have stated that the researchers used reliable data, for example, those libraries’ official records. * 高亮部分回应指令要求。 * 下划线部分回应逻辑疑点的类型。 例二:回应“what specific evidence is needed”指令,并且是在“地点”这类逻辑疑点。 In the second study, the place investigated is limited to Waymarsh’s public libraries. In fact, books may be purchased, from stores, rather than borrowed, or they may be borrowed from private libraries or libraries that are not based in Waymarsh. However, the author fails to provide evidence that can rule out these other possible sources from which readers can get books. * 高亮部分回应指令要求。 * 下划线部分回应逻辑疑点的类型。 例三:回应“examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions”指令,并且是在讨论“时间”和“地点”这两类逻辑疑点。 The author’s immediate assumption, which is questionable, is that the data yielded from the recent nationwide survey reflect a universal situation that is through all times and all places. However, since the survey was conducted recently, its result may only show a situation that is in the recent time. In other words, the data collected from the survey may provide no guidance for the present situation or the future. Meanwhile, since the survey was conducted nationwide, its result may only display a picture that represents the whole nation’s general situation with some possible exceptions—some places where daily homework is useful—disregarded. The state of Attra may be among those exceptions, and daily homework may prove useful at Attra schools. * 高亮部分回应指令要求。 * 下划线部分回应逻辑疑点的类型。 例四:回应“examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions”指令,并且是在讨论“范围”这类逻辑疑点。 Another assumption is at where the author compares Marlee only to Sanlee. In thisassumption, the author overlooks other districts around the whole nation that may be compared to Marlee. Since the author intends to use Marlee as the reference, there should be comparisons in which Marlee defeats the nation’s all other districts, and the lack of the comparisons renders the author’s assumption questionable. * 高亮部分回应指令要求。 * 下划线部分回应逻辑疑点的类型。 例五:回应“what questions would need to be answered”指令,并且是在讨论“范围”这类逻辑疑点。 The immediate question is regarding whether Alpha and Zeta are the only two options. Unless either they have proven to better choices than all other construction companies or they are the only two companies in the possible range of choice in terms of where they are based, Zeta may be a choice that is better only than Alpha yet still a poor choice compared with other companies.
