　　And now here is my secret, a very simple secret. It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eyes.

　　The men where you live, raise five thousand roses in the same garden – and they do not find in it what they are looking for. And yet what they are looking for could be found in one single rose, or in a little water. But eyes are blind. One must look with the heart…

　　你所居住的星球上的人们，在同一座花园培育了五千朵玫瑰——却无法从中找到他们所要寻找的东西。但是，他们所寻找的，其实是可以从一朵玫瑰花或一滴水中找到的。然而眼睛往往是盲从的。人还是必须用心去看……

　　"If some one loves a flower, of which just one single blossom grows in all the millions and millions of stars, it is enough to make him happy just to look at the stars. He can say to himself, Somewhere, my flower is there… But if the sheep eats the flower, in one moment all his stars will be darkened… And you think that is not important!"

　　倘若一个人对一朵花情有独钟，而那花在浩瀚的星河中，是的，那么，他只要仰望繁星点点，就心满意足了。他会喃喃自语：“我的花就在星河的某个角落……”可是，这花一旦被羊吃掉了，一瞬间，所有星星都将随之黯淡无光……那你也认为这不重要吗?

　　"You are beautiful, but you are empty," he went on." One could not die for you. To be sure, an ordinary passerby would think that my rose looked just like you-- the rose that belongs to me.

　　But in herself alone she is more important than all the hundreds of you other roses: because it is she that I have watered; because it is she that I have put under the glass globe; because it is she that I have sheltered behind the screen; because it is for her that I have killed the caterpillars (except the two or three that we saved to become butterflies);

　　because it is she that I have listened to, when she grumbled, or boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing. Because she is my rose."

　　“你们很美，但你们是空虚的。”小王子仍然在对她们说，“没有人能为你们去死。当然罗，我的那朵玫瑰花，一个普通的过路人以为她和你们一样。可是， 她单独一朵就比你们全体更重要，因为她是我浇灌的。因为她是我放在花罩中的。因为她是我用屏风保护起来的。因为她身上的毛虫(除了留下两三只为了变蝴蝶而外)是我除灭的。因为我倾听过她的怨艾和自诩，甚至有时我聆听着她的沉默。因为她是我的玫瑰。”

　　If we do not go through the world, we do not know what is our spiritual and emotional sustenance, but once we go through the world, we find that we can no longer go back to that wonderful place to go. When we begin to seek, we have lost, and we are not seeking, we cannot know what is so precious to us.

　　如果不去遍历世界，我们就不知道什么是我们精神和情感的寄托，可我们一旦遍历了世界，却发现我们再也无法回到那美好的地方去了。当我们开始寻找，我们就已经失去，而假如不去寻找，我们根本无法知道自己身边的一切是如此可贵。

　　"To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me.

　　To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world…"

　　“对我来说，你还只是一个小男孩，就像其他千万个小男孩一样。我不需要你。你也同样用不着我。对你来说，我也不过是一只狐狸，和其他千万只狐狸一样。但是，如果你驯服了我，我们就互相不可缺少了。对我来说，你就是世界上的了;我对你来说，也是世界上的了。”

　　"My life is very monotonous," the fox said.

　　"I hunt chickens; men hunt me. All the chickens are just alike, and all the men are just alike. And, in consequence, I am a little bored.

　　But if you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life . I shall know the sound of a step that will be different from all the others. Other steps send me hurrying back underneath the ground. Yours will call me, like music, out of my burrow.

　　And then look: you see the grain-fields down yonder? I do not ea t bread. Wheat is of no use to me. The wheat fields have nothing to say to me. And that is sad. But you have hair that is the colour of gold.

　　Think how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me! The grain, which is also golden, will bring me bac k the thought of you. And I shall love to listen to the wind in the wheat…"

　　狐狸说：“我的生活很单调。我追逐鸡，人追逐我。所有的鸡都一个模样。所有的人也是。所以，我感到有点无聊。但是，如果你驯养了我，我的生活将充满阳光。我将辨别出一种与众不同的脚步声。别的脚步声会让我钻入地下。而你的脚步声却会像音乐一样，把我从洞穴里召唤出来。另外你瞧，看到那边的麦田了么?我不吃面包，小麦对我来说毫无用处。麦田也不会让我联想到任何事。这是很可悲的!但是你长着金黄色头发。当你驯养我以后，这将是非常美妙的一件事!麦子的颜色也是金黄色的，它会让我想起你。而且我也将喜欢聆听风儿吹过麦田的声音……”

　　"It would have been better to come back at the same hour," said the fox.

　　"If, for example, you come at four o clock in the afternoon, then at three o clock I shall begin to be happy. I shall feel happier and happier as the hour advances. At four o clock, I shall already be worrying and jumping about.

　　I shall show you how happy I am! But if you come at just any time, I shall never know at what hour my heart is to be ready to greet you… One must observe the proper rites…"

　　“还是在原来的那个时间来。”狐狸说道，“比如说，你下午四点钟来， 那么从三点钟起，我就开始感到幸福。时间越临近，我就越感到幸福。到了四点钟的时候，我就会坐立不安;我就会发现幸福的代价。但是，如果你随便什么时候来，我就不知道在什么时候该准备好我的心情……应当有一定的仪式。”

　　Judge oneself than to judge others more difficult. If you successfully trial right himself, then you are really a wise.

　　审判自己比审判别人难多了，如果你正确地审判了自己，那么你就是一个真正的智者了。

　　"What are you doing there?" he said to the tippler, whom he found settled down in silence before a collection of empty bottles and also a collection of full bottles.

　　“你在干什么?”小王子问酒鬼，这个酒鬼默默地坐在那里，面前有一堆酒瓶子，有的装着酒，有的是空的。

　　"I am drinking," replied the tippler, with a lugubrious air.“我喝酒。”他阴沉忧郁地回答道。

　　"Why are you drinking?" demanded the little prince.“你为什么喝酒?”小王子问道。

　　"So that I may forget," replied the tippler.“为了忘却。”酒鬼回答。

　　"Forget what?" inquired the little prince, who already was sorry for him.小王子已经有些可怜酒鬼。他问道：“忘却什么呢?”

　　"Forget that I am ashamed," the tippler confessed, hanging his head.酒鬼垂下脑袋坦白道：“为了忘却我的羞愧。”

　　"Ashamed of what?" insisted the little prince, who wanted to help him.“你羞愧什么呢?”小王子很想救助他。

　　"Ashamed of drinking!" The tippler brought his speech to an end, and shut himself up in an impregnable silence.“我羞愧我喝酒。”酒鬼说完以后就再也不开口了。
