Archaeologists have long thought that an artifact called the pemchint was used by Dodecan people solely as a musical instrument. Pemchints consist of hollowed pieces of bone, shell, or wood that are tied together with long straps. When whirled in the air, the pemchints create pleasant tones. Until recently, pemchints were found only at locations known to be used for Dodecan rituals and celebrations. Additionally, they were always excavated in proximity to other musical artifacts. Recently, however, a pemchint was found along with Dodecan hunters' tools located miles from the nearest known Dodecan settlement, while no other music-related objects were found in the area. Clearly, then, the pemchint was used by Dodecan hunters, who most probably used the sounds to repel dangerous wildlife.

Write a response in which you discuss one or more alternative explanations that could rival the proposed explanation and explain how your explanation(s) can plausibly account for the facts presented in the argument.

思考的两个切入点：

1）猎人身份；

2）被发现时的情况。

从这两个切入点把写作的主体部分分成两大段落，每个段落里包含相应的几个点。

个段落：讨论符合猎人身份的alternative explanation：

1. Hunters used pemchint to attract target animals.

2. All Dodecan hunters wore pemchint as an ornament that symbolizes their identity as hunters or as a superstitious amulet.

3. The pemchint might have been a functional or ornamental integral part of hunters’ tools rather than an independent object that were carried by hunters.

第二个段落：讨论符合被发现时的情况的alternative explanation：

1. Since there is only one pemchint found along with Dodecan hunters' tools, it might have been an accident that this particular pemchint was accidentally mixed with the hunters’ tools.

2. There might have been other musical artifacts buried at the same location, but those artifacts, probably made of materials vulnerable to moisture and oxygen in the soil that buried them, had decayed with time. Pemchints, as are made of bone or shell, can remain through time.

我们以“符合被发现时的情况”为例写一个段落示范：

The given fact also indicates the conditions as the pemchint was discovered excavated: a pemchint was found along with Dodecan hunters' tools, and there were no other music-related objects found nearby. At this point, there are two alternative explanations that, contrary to the proposed explanation, account for this situation. First, since there is only one pemchint found along with Dodecan hunters' tools, it might have been an accident that this particular pemchint, still as a musical instrument used for Dodecan rituals and celebrations, was accidentally mixed with the hunters’ tools. Second, there might have been other musical artifacts buried at the same location, but those artifacts, probably made of materials vulnerable to moisture and oxygen in the soil that buried them, had decayed with time. Pemchints, as are made of bone or shell, can remain through time. This case aligns with the pervious archeological understanding that pemchints were used as the musical instrument.
