GRE填空的考察本质，除了对词汇和语法的考察外，更是对逻辑的考察，幸而ETS在出题思路上相当单纯，只有两种模式，逻辑就分两种，同义和反义。所以，正确判断句子的逻辑很重要，其中，代词就是一个非常有利的信号。

代词在句子当中，指代前文已经提及的内容，所以代词是一种信号。比如：小明是一个好人，他经常乐于助人。在这句话中，“他”就指代小明。那么在GRE填空中， 常见的指代信号有：this/it/such/定冠词the+名词。

接下来，我们结合填空的做题步骤，来具体运用。

做题步骤：

1. 读题目，理解意思

2. 关注逻辑信号，主动寻找同义替换/对等关系

3. 确定空与已知内容的对应

4. 查看选项确认

The novelist devotes so much time to avid descriptions of his characters’ clothes that the reader soon feels that such __________ concerns, although worthy of attention, have superseded any more directly literary aims.

此题指代词为such。Such______ concerns，往前指代。原文前半句意思是：这位小说家花很多时间描述小说角色的衣服，所以这个concern也就对应characters’ clothes。所以选D。不选C和E的原因是，原文提到concerns是worthy of attention，所以不是“无相关”或者是“没必要的”。

前两道题都是前文已经完整提到指代的内容，再要求我们判断后面代词的具体指代，往前找。而第三题，前面的内容并不完整，需要根据后面的指代反推。虽然有些差异，但是做题的突破口都是一样的。
