In many countries, traditional food is being replaced by international fast food. This will have negative effects on both families and societies. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
高分范文及解析
01
Just as globalization has taken the world by storm(征服,攻占), so international fast food has proliferated(迅速扩散) across the globe. As a result, many traditional foods are being supplanted(代替) by foreign fast food(复述题目). In my opinion, this phenomenon has a detrimental(有害的) effect on families and societies, but is not as much of a threat as it may seem at first glance(陈述观点).
02
International fast food has a major advantage over most traditional foods, which is the considerable resources that a parent corporation may bring to bear to advertise, secure supply chains and push out local competition. For example, in China, the local mom-and-pop food stalls(摊位) which have traditionally served local staples(主食) cannot afford the spiking(激增) commercial rents once foreign competitors offer vast sums to landlords to lease restaurant spaces. In addition, the near-constant stream of advertising from chains such as McDonald’s worms their way into(潜入) the social consciousness incessantly, making the mom-and-pop shops appear quaint or antiquated. (观点的前半部分——对家庭和社会不利——的理由一)
03
As a result of these international chains moving in, it can become increasingly difficult to find the local delicacies which once thrived. This can lead to certain negative effects on society and families, such as a loss or dilution of cultural heritage as traditional foods become scarce. Similarly, families may be affected as the cost of food increases when international fast foods eliminate cheaper alternatives. Indeed, countries such as China and India have experienced rising food costs over the years due in part to foreign chains taking up larger shares of the market. (观点的前半部分——对家庭和社会不利——的理由二)
04
However, while this all sounds scary on paper, and it has been problematic to a certain extent, there is a strong pushback against international fast foods which prevents them from causing too much damage to families or societies. In the example of China, because many local foods remain far less expensive than their foreign counterparts, and families adhere to a strong belief that fast foods are unhealthy, traditional foods maintain their popularity. Also, international fast-food chains do not always successfully entice the local palate(味道), and do not necessarily beat out the local competitors for customers. (观点的后半部分——坏处不大——的论证)
05
While it is reasonable to fear the level of competitive marketing and financial clout(势力) that international fast-food chains can employ when entering a country, local families and societies are not in much danger(复述观点). These foreign foods simply provide another edible option to the local populace, and at worst motivate sellers of traditional foods to improve their own business strategies to compete.
