Task 2
In some countries, criminals are sent to schools to educate students about good and legal behavior.
What do you think are the reasons?
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this practice?
It is controversial / contentious practice that criminals are sent to schools to teach students about being a law-abiding citizen. Although there are reasons behind the practice, it is undesirable.
The first reason is that criminals’ reflection on their misdeeds is more persuasive than teachers’ instructions. Teenage students are more likely to be convinced of the consequences of misbehavior when the lesson is taught by criminals, whose personal experiences are concrete evidence, than when the textbook teaches the lesson. Furthermore, those criminals are expected to truly feel sorry. The jail cell does not necessarily provoke their thoughts about their wrong-doing, and it is likely that they are more aware of theirdelinquencies when they tell the stories to warn others.
However, those countries that adopt this practice are not thoughtful. 承上启下 As a matter of fact, this practice may be strongly opposed by the parents and also may becounterproductive. “纵向”展开,细化两个缺点:Firstly, parents are highly likely to object to it, as they find their children’s contact with offenders worrisome. Knowing that parents tend to be overprotective and that this practice may be provocative, schools should not take the risk of being questioned. In addition, even though the price of crimes is told with the intent that the young would be deterred, a juvenile, whose judgement is inadequate and unsound, mayidolize the criminals and mimic their misconduct. No one can guarantee that this irony does not happen.
At this point, those considerations on which the practice is based are only expectations. This practice thus is more likely to end up with being disappointment than to fulfill the purpose.
